Little Tikes Fold ‘n’ Go 5-in-1 Trike Review

With Spring in the air and Summer just around the corner we are glad to be getting outside and embracing the warmer weather. Since Piglet is not walking yet we need to always have a carrier or pram with us. the downside of that is that the pram can be pretty bulky and take up a lot of space in the car – which doesn’t leave us much in the way of space for anything else.

The opportunity arose for us to carry out a Little Tikes Fold ‘n’ Go 5-in-1 Trike review. Since they’re new I didn’t really know what to expect, but I was keen to give anything a try that can fold up and give us a little more room in the garage and the car.

Fold ‘n’ Go Trike Features

There are lots of trikes for babies and toddlers on the market, so clearly the Fold ‘n’ Go was going to have to do something special in order to stand out. It does of course fold for transport, but what else?

  • Extended age range – Unlike your standard baby trike, this one is suitable from 9 months to 5 years old. As far as value for money goes that ticks all the boxes for me! It is great to know that it will grow with Piglet and we’ll get lots of use out of it.
  • Reclining Seat – Some babies, like Piglet, are slower to sit up. The seat reclines to make for a safer and more comfortable ride for them from a younger age.
  • Three Point Harness – Just gives that peace of mind that your little one is safely strapped in to place.
  • Adjustable & removable parent handle – As they grow the need to push along the trike will disappear, so it is possible to complete remove the handle. This lets them take off without the handle behind them.
  • Foldable Pedals – Since Piglet doesn’t need pedals at the moment they fold into the front wheel to stop them spinning and generally getting in the way. I really like this, rather than having to remove them, as it means they won’t get lost and are there ready for when we need them.

Set-Up

I was aware that Little Tikes products often need quite a bit of work to get them built and so I was going to wait until Piglet was having his nap, but then he was not keen on that idea. And who could say no to this face?!

I had slight regret once he started chewing on footrests and like as he really wasn’t the best helper. The trike came in quite a few parts and it was a little daunting – even with an engineering degree! The instructions were clear though and it really didn’t take that long to do. I managed to assemble it myself at home and Piglet was soon ready to go.

Out And About

I was surprised by how much Piglet liked the Fold ‘n’ Go trike straight away. He had a big smile on his face and loved it. I don’t know if it’s because it’s lower to the ground than his pram perhaps, but whatever it is he’s a fan. He gets really excited when he sees the push along trike, clapping his handles and kicking his feet as he is so desperate to get in.

The parent handle takes a little getting used to, but does steer quite well. It is perhaps a little on the short side to make it comfortable for JHogg to push, but I imagine it’s size is dictated by the fact it is foldable. Personally, I am willing to forgo a little height to allow the Little Tikes trike to be able to fold away when not in use.

Below is a short video of one of our trips to a local park. You can see how easily it fits into the back of our car and how easy it was to push around. When we were there we were even stopped by someone and asked about it – so it clearly attracts some attention!

It took a little while to get the hang of folding it up and we had to use the instructions the first few times. As with all things – it’s easy once you know how!

Fold ‘n’ Go Trike Review Verdict

I was a little skeptical of trikes for a toddler that can’t walk, never mind cycle, but I am a convert. It is well made and clearly is built to last. With an RRP of £129.99 it is at the higher end of the market, but the extended age suitability justifies that. The longevity is there and I can see Piglet getting use out of it for years to come.
