5 Tips For Home Security

In the last few years I have become increasingly aware of crimes being committed around peoples homes. Barely a week goes by without hearing about a car being stolen from a drive away, or a a handbag being stolen from within someones house.

Many of these events come about because of opportunists, but there are still plenty that are a result of organised crime. Sometimes it just comes down to bad luck, but it doesn’t mean that you can’t take precautions to protect yourself and your home. Below are my 5 top tips for home security .

5 Tips For Home Security | Do you worry about people breaking into your home and stealing your car or other other possessions? I have 5 tips that will help to keep your home safe and secure https://oddhogg.com

1. Lock Your Doors

This might sound so simple, but you’d be amazed by the number of people who don’t keep their doors locked while they are at home. There are numerous reports of thieves sneaking in the front door and grabbing anything in sight while you are still at home. This is often a handbag, the house keys or the car keys. Simply keeping the doors locked stops any opportunists gaining easy entry to your home.

2. Hide Your Keys

Once you’ve locked your doors, it pays to keep the keys out of sight. We keep our house keys separate from our car keys. The house keys are kept relatively near the front door in case of an emergency such as a fire, but there is no need for the car keys to be in that area. There are reports of thieves using sticks or other items through the letter box to hook keys and steal them. In fact – my own brother did this as a teenager when he locked himself out. So it is possible!

3. Keep Valuables Out Of Sight

There is no need to advertise what you have. If an thief breaks into your house they likely have limited time to grab what they want and get out again. Don’t leave your valuable possessions lying around. The harder they are to find, the less likely they are to be taken.

4. Install A Security Camera

If you really want to crank your home security up a notch, you can install one of the Panasonic home security cameras. It’s existence may act as a deterrent to any thieves, or help in identifying anyone who breaks into your home.

5. Use Timers

Whenever we are going out and about or on holiday we use timers for our lights. You don’t have to have expensive ones, you can pick them up for a couple of pounds on amazon. You can also connect radios to them to make your home seem like there is someone in it.
