Before Piglet was born I wasn’t really interested in online independent clothes shops. It wasn’t that I didn’t like them, I just didn’t know what was out there. Since Piglet came along I discovered a whole new world of clothing, and I’ve now got a huge wish list of items that I want to get.
One of the new brands I’ve discovered is Alfie et al. They have a collection of clothes for both kids and adults, as well as a range of teething toys. They asked us if we would like to review a couple of items and of course we said yes.
Each of the items arrived wrapped in their own tissue paper. There was a little bag of Haribo too – a simple touch but one that is definitely appreciated. I made sure to hide those from JHogg sharpish.
Since it was my dad’s birthday this month I chose a t-shirt just for him. It was a nice quality top, and the printing clear. He (and I) thought it was pretty funny. He has 6 grandchildren already so there’s usually at least one visiting every day – Grandad Life!
I got a t-shirt to match. The women’s t-shirts are made of a thinner material, more suited to current fashion. I can see this being a staple of my wardrobe from now on. It pairs well with jeans….. or any other trousers really.
Of course, we couldn’t forget Piglet. I had real trouble picking a design for his t-shirt but in the end went for this one “YOLO You’re Only Little Once”. Like the mens t-shirt, it is a nice thick material but still soft on his skin.
The Test Of Time
The care instructions for the t-shirts suggests to wash them at 30C. We wash at 40C, so I opted to size up for both my Dad and I to allow for a small amount of shrinking when they were first washed.
I am glad we did, because both of our t-shirts fit us perfectly. Had we gotten the size down they would have been a bit snug.
We have washed all the t-shirts multiple times now at 40C and they haven’t shrunk. I wouldn’t risk putting them in the tumble drier, but they’ve had no issues in my washing machine at least.
We really love these t-shirts. The range of design options are great, particularly for kids. The wash well and the print quality is high. If you like to shop small and promote an independent business them be sure to check them out!
