The end of the school year brings excitement for so many. Thoughts of long summer days spent playing in paddling pools and eating ice lollies. For most kids the holidays seem long and like they will last for ever, but some are already thinking about what comes after them.
Preparing to go back to school is exciting for many. New shoes, new backpack, new pencil case. The anticipation of seeing friends every day is enough to get many looking forward to the upcoming year. It’s not always the case though, and for some it can be a little nerve wracking.
My youngest nephew is 2 years old. In August he starts at nursery for the first time – and he was not happy about it at all. If you mentioned it to him, he would reply with “no thanks”. We walk past the nursery on our way into a class on a Friday and a few times my sister has suggested to him that it might be nice to go in and play with the other boys and girls.
Simply entering the building to hand in his registration form meant tears and outright refusal. All in, it was looking like he would be off to a bad start.
His big brother goes to nursery school, and the littlest thinks his brother is wonderful and loves to copy him. We thought we would try and harness that, and see if a little sibling rivalry would get the littlest excited for being a “big boy”.
We ordered a set of name labels from StickerScape for each of the boys. The biggest has dinosaur themed ones and I love the footprints on some of them! There are both stick on and iron on labels in the pack, so it’s perfect for labelling clothes and uniform as well as shoes and water bottles.
We made a big show of explaining to him that these are his new labels ready for all the things he needs next year. All the while, his little brother was eyeing them up – clearly thinking he wouldn’t mind some labels too.
We talked with the Biggest about the dinosaurs, and how if he wasn’t sure which jumper was his he could look for one with a dinosaur on. And then the little voice piped up.
Bingo! It seems to draw of big boy labels was too much for the Littlest. He has his own construction themed set which he likes to get out and look at, all ready for when he is to go to nursery.
There are loads of different designs for the labels. We even got Piglet a space themed set to go on some of his items. With so many cousins wearing similar clothing at a similar age its great to have a quick visual on what belongs to who.
The stick on labels can be used in the dishwasher – which is a real life saver. I had some concerns about labelling Piglet’s sippy cup for when we go to our toddler group but then being restricted to hand washing it from now on. You just have to make sure it has been stuck down for 24 hours first. Similarly – the iron on labels are washing machine friendly and really easy to use!
Fundraise For Your School
I don’t know a single school or nursery that isn’t looking for a little extra cash to provide resources for the kids. StickerScape has a fab fundraising scheme where your school can get 25% commission on all name labels ordered by parents.
It’s free to get your school or nursery set up, and StickerScape even provide you with the flyers to distribute to parents. There is no need to collect any cash or place large orders – each parents can place their own order online using your school ID code and the order is dispatched direct to them.
For every £50 your school gets in commission they will also be gifted an educational wall sticker. How cool is that? They can either use it themselves or pop it in a raffle prize for a school fair.
