Things are winding down around here for Christmas. I don’t intend to blog over the festive period, I want to spend the time with my family. Eating my weight in junk food, visiting relatives and encouraging Piglet to crawl!
I’ve seen a few people do the Christmas Tag, so I thought I would jump on the bandwagon. Christmas is only a few days away after all!
I don’t think I’ll be blogging again until the New Year….. unless the mood strikes me. So Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all! I’m looking forward to starting fresh in 2017 🙂
What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
I love all sorts of Christmas movies – I shared my top 10 a few weeks ago. I think my favourite is probably Elf though. I have watched it a ridiculous number of times since it came out. My friends know my love for it, one even bought Piglet an Elf outfit this year!
Have you ever had a White Christmas?
Oh yes. In the North East of Scotland they are fairly common. We usually have snow every couple of years. I remember once, when I was about 10 or 11, that there was a huge blizzard. We were having Christmas dinner at my Aunt’s house and were all a bit worried about the car in the snow! We made it safely though.
It doesn’t seem like we’re going to have one this year. Things have been uncharacteristically warm here so far this year! Piglet is yet to see snow so hopefully we’ll get some soon.
Where do you usually spend your holiday?
We alternate Christmas dinner between my parents and my in-laws. We are lucky that they only live a short distance apart, so we always see both families at some point throughout the day.
I will say though, it can be exhausting. We love seeing everyone but one of us always has to drive and miss out on the bucks fizz breakfast – boo! I wouldn’t change it though, Christmas is all about spending time with your family.
What is your favourite Christmas song?
Hmmm I can’t say I really have one. I’ve been listening to Michael Buble – Christmas like I do every year. So can I just say every song thats on that album?
I do quite enjoy Driving Home For Christmas too. But really just anything!
Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
Nope. No way. Definitely not. Why would you?! Christmas is the next day, surely you can wait just 12 more hours!!
We are having a Christmas Eve box this year. I don’t want to go crazy with it – there’s enough new stuff for Christmas day! But it has new PJ’s, a Christmas movie, a book and a game in it. Very little additional expense as the movie and game we already had 🙂
Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Is that them all? I’m not even really sure how many there are. That seems like plenty though, so I’m going to go ahead and claim that yes I can name them all!
I’ve now googled it. I got them all. Excuse me while I go off and polish my crown.
What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?
We are starting our Christmas Eve box this year, so thats a fun new activity that I hope will be a tradition in years to come. Other than that, I’m happy to go with the flow. Since we don’t spend Christmas day at home it is hard to have too much in the way of traditions.
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Our tree is fake. I grew up with a fake tree. JHogg grew up with a fake tree. We don’t really know any different!
I often think I would like a real tree, really just for the smell alone. Being so accustomed to a full fake tree though, I find real ones tend to look more bare in my opinion. Plus I’m super lazy with cleaning and really just can’t be bothered to tidy up needles!
What’s your all-time favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?
Christmas stocking chocolate! My mum does a roast ham on Christmas day (along side the traditional turkey!) and that is amazing too. I have also been making chocolate fudge for the last few years and find it pretty hard to box it up for gifts rather than eat it all myself!
Be honest, do you like giving or receiving gifts better?
If I think I’ve found the perfect gift for someone I can get really excited about giving it to them! I’m not going to deny that I enjoy opening lots of lovely presents, but giving can be really special too.
What is the best Christmas present you have ever received?
Hmmm I don’t really know. Partially because I’ve got a memory like a fish probably!
I think my most memorable present is a Furby when I was a kid. My mum had told me in the run up to Christmas that she hadn’t been able to get one for me, but that we would keep trying. I was disappointed, but at about 10 or 11 I understood. What I didn’t know is that she had been up at ridiculous o’clock one morning to queue and get them for me and my cousin! So that was probably the best Christmas present.
What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
A few years ago we went to Frankfurt to the Christmas markets, which is ultimately where JHogg proposed to me. I would really love to go back with Piglet one day.
Other than that I am happy to stay at home over the festive period! There is always lots going on and I don’t like to miss out.
Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
A bit of both. I like the idea of prettily wrapped gifts, but my execution needs a bit more work! This year I’ve gone for simple brown paper with Christmas ribbons and that seems to have been quite effective.
Most memorable holiday moment?
This is a tough one. There is the time my mum and little brother had a discussion about the Christmas tree and he stated “the gardener did it”. The time Santa brought us a all a climbing frame, which my dad set up outside on Christmas eve in the cold. Getting engaged in Frankfurt, or the birth of one niece and one nephew really close to Christmas day. I couldn’t choose between them all.
What made you realise the truth about Santa?
My cousin had been brought a teddy that sang from Santa. On Christmas day she had proudly shown it to us all. My Gran and Aunt were talking later about how much shoe loved it and my Aunt made a comment along the lines of “I know – and it was so cheap in Debenhams”.
Dreams shattered. Christmas ruined. I’ve never forgiven them 😉
What makes the holidays special for you?
There is no one thing that makes it special. I enjoy the time of year as it is an excuse for everyone to get together. Reunite with friends you haven’t seen much of over the course of the year, spend extra time with family. I love it all.
Have you done the Christmas Tag? Let me know in the comments so I can go and check it out!
