I don’t know about you, but when I was pregnant I used to be up to the bathroom multiple times a night. It would drive JHogg mad, so I used to try and be as quiet as possible so I didn’t disturb him. In the bathroom I often didn’t put the light on, as doing that woke me up too much and made it even harder to get back to sleep afterwards.

When I saw the Illumibowl I knew it was something we had to give a try. At first I just thought it sounded hilarious and a bit of a gimmick – but when I thought about it I realised it’s a genius idea! Thankfully they sent us one to try out and I was looking forward to getting it on the loo!

Illumibowl Review | A toilet night light - what a clever idea! Motion sensor activated, we have been trying out this light to see how suitable it would be for tired parents https://oddhogg.com

The concept is simple. You pop the sensor over the edge of your toilet, and when the lights are off and it senses movement it lights up. You can have it scrolling through various colours, or stop it on the colour that you like and it will stay there. It doesn’t light up when there is already light so that it saves the batteries.

It seems like a really great idea for kids. I’m sure there are thousands of parents across the country that are being woken by their sprogs overnight to take them too the loo as they don’t want to go in the dark and can’t reach for the light.

Set Up

We took the Illumibowl out of the packaging, added some batteries and popped it onto the toilet. This is where we hit a hurdle, as it will not sit straight. The rim of our toilet appears to be quite large and so it has to be rather precariously balanced.

Due to the location of our toilet, the Illumibowl has to be on the front of the toilet so that it faces the door. That may have something to do with it not sitting 100% right.

Testing It Out

I’ve had every man and his dog into our bathroom with the lights out to show them the loo! It’s definitely given us a good laugh, but it’s actually been really useful too. Our sink is right next to the toilet, so if you can see the toilet you know where you can wash your hands!

We like having the colours rotating rather than fixed on one colour. It’s a bit of a bathroom disco really! Even JHogg is on board with it now. When I first told him what we were getting he thought it was ridiculous, but when I suggested we could take it off he was pretty clear that it had to stay!

Obviously with anything that goes into the bathroom I was pretty keen to know how to keep the Illumibowl clean! It can be removed and wiped down with a damp cloth. Personally – I spray it with a bit of Dettol too. As it is an electrical device it can’t be immersed in water.

If you want to get your hands on your own Illumibowl you can get one direct from their website or on amazon.
