The news is out! We are expecting baby number 2, and with my sister pregnant too our conversations are filled with talk of pregnancy and babies. It has got me thinking about what the best present ideas are for a mum to be, or even for a new mum. It’s not always easy to know what is best to get, especially if you have never been a mum yourself.
So whether it is for your friends, sister, girlfriend or wife, there should be something on this list that suits their current and future needs. But if there is ever any doubt, you can just make sure you give them the gift receipt 😉
For The Mum Who Needs Some Pampering
It doesn’t matter if they’re already a mum or if they’re expecting their first baby – most women will admit to needing a bit of pampering. Nivea have a huge range of products to suit every possible need and budget.
If you are looking for stocking fillers then the Luscious Lips set is perfect. It is in a cute heart shaped tin and contains 4 full sized lip balms. When in labour it is well known that the use of gas and air can leave you with really dry lips, so perhaps she can pop one into the hospital bag. There is also the Beautiful Skin gift pack. It comes with a cute pink toiletries bag, a shower puff and 3 full size Nivea products. At £10 it makes a great secret Santa gift.
7th Heaven have some really cool gift sets available this season, and my favourite is the Pamper and Party Bag. It contains 7 masks, a shower puff and a bright pink sparkly travel bag. The masks allow mum to have a little spa experience in the comfort of their own home – and sometimes that’s just what they need!
Again, if you are looking for a small stocking filler instead, you could pick up one or two of the Yes To masks. Everyone thinks the sleepless nights begin when the baby arrive, but actually it is really common to struggle with sleep while you’re pregnant too. The Yes To Cucumber Sleeping Mask is my favourite, but there are plenty others available.
If you want to get a more luxury set, the Mummy Bee range from BeeFayre is gorgeous. The set contains a lavender & geranium scented candle, hand cream and lip, as well as a greetings Card and packet of ‘Seeds for Bees’. It comes beautifully boxed, and at £36 makes a really lovely gift.
For The Mum Who Is Practical
Some mums might prefer a more practical present. I know for me, I can sometimes be a bit reluctant to splash out on something for myself even if I know that I do really need it.
One such area is maternity and nursing bras. This pregnancy I am using the same ones that I used previously, but really a new one is what is needed. I have been eyeing up the Carriwell GelWire Nursing Bra. It comes in both black and white and looks like it is mega comfortable. At £32.50 it’s not the most expensive, but is not something that everyone would splash out on.
Swimming is an amazing way to exercise when you’re pregnant. The water takes the strain off your back and it can be really soothing. Of course, not everyone is comfortable wearing a bikini in the pool so things can be a bit awkward once your stomach doesn’t fit in your usual costume. A Carriwell classic maternity swimsuit would leave her feeling comfortable and supported, and able to do something for her!
If you are buying for a new mum then it might be nice to treat her to some new clothes. I always like to look in Debenhams when buying for others, as it seems to cater for everyone. It’s worth looking out for a Debenhams discount code before you buy – every penny counts at this time of year!
For The New Mum
There are a few things you can buy for a new mum which will make their life a lot easier. First up is a baby carrier or wrap. Yoga Bellies is a stretchy wrap which makes carrying a baby comfortable for both mum and baby. It is currently £25.95 on Amazon which I think is a great price.
If you want to help take the strain off a new mum, then you could start looking into products they might want to use when weaning. Baby led weaning does seem to be popular these days, but I prefer traditional weaning. The Tommee Tippee Steam Blender makes the act of making food for baby at home really simple. It’s an all in one system so there’s less washing up – what’s not to love!
Its worth looking out for a Mothercare discount code before buying though too! There are often deals to be found if you look for them.
For The Mum Who Deserves A Bit Of Luxury
Sometimes, they just don’t want something that will remind them that they’re pregnant. This is where the White Christmas festive bouquet from Beard And Daisies comes in. A gorgeous white bouquet can be delivers straight to their door. The stems come in gel to keep them happy while in the post, but without the risk of spilling that you get with water. Retailing at £34.99 I think they are beautiful and worth every penny.
Lastly, if you prefer to buy jewellery then you may want to consider the Astra Jewellery Gift Of Life pendant. It is silver, with white gold and rose gold plating. It depicts a mother and child’s feet together in a delicate heart motif, perfect for their first Christmas as a mum.
