Up until now I’ve started each of these posts with the typical “where has the time gone…” etc. But actually this last month hasn’t flown by. We’ve had a lot on and been really busy, but we seem to have had time to enjoy it!
At 8 months old Piglet has finally sat. It was a long time coming, and it’s still not even remotely close to stable, but he can do it. He chose his first sitting experience to be in the swimming pool of all places!
He shouts Dada at me incessantly. I’ve heard one or two Mama’s……. but its usually Dada he calls for. Typical!
Piglet went on his first airplane and spent a fun week in Majorca with his cousins. He was lapping up the attention from them all. He’s definitely a social little guy.
We’ve had a few issues with being clingy in the last 2 weeks. It doesn’t appear to be seperation anxiety as such, he is happy to be away from me if he’s with someone else. He just doesn’t like to be alone and can quite upset about it. He soothes immediately when you pick him up though, so he’s clearly not being too traumatised!
Piglet was weighed this morning and came in at 17lbs 6oz. He has jumped up from the 9th percentile to the 25th. The signs of his prematurity are fading. When we were on holiday he had a big growth spurt. He rapidly outgrew his 3-6m clothes and is pushing on the edges of some of his 6-9m too for some things.
I try not to compare him to other babies because I know they’re all difference……. but everyone does it a bit really don’t they! He has chunked out quite a bit and looks more “normal” if there is such a thing. I notice less size differences in other babies of 8 months old than I did before.
The lack of teeth is a bit of a joke now. I’ve no idea where they’re hiding or when they’re planning on showing up.
The rest of him is doing great though – no concerns at all!
Holiday introduced all sorts of new things for Piglet to eat. He adored orange segments to suck on after his breakfast! He is taking his food with quite large chunks now, which I think is quite impressive considering his lack of teeth. I stopped with baby porridge etc and moved him on to normal porridge. At first he wasn’t impressed but two days in he was scoffing it down like before! I hope his good eating habits continue.
In my original “plan” when I was pregnant I had figured I would give up breastfeeding by now. However, I’m enjoying it and so is Piglet. He spent 3 days with my parents this month while I attended a wedding (furiously expressing at every opportunity!) and I wasn’t sure he’d be keen to go back on the breast when I got back but I shouldn’t have worried. He’s definitely a boob man.
While we were on holiday he dropped his final overnight food – hallelujah. I wasn’t sure if it might return once we were home and back in our normal routine but it hasn’t. We’re on 4 feeds a day now, the morning and evening feeds being the most significant. I make up his breakfast with formula too, just to make sure he’s getting enough 🙂
As I mentioned in his 7 month update, Piglet’s bedtime was much later than I liked and I wanted to fix that after our holiday. He did a little of that himself by dropping the night feed, but I also instigated a bedtime boot camp too.
Falling asleep can be quite hit and miss at times, but it does overall seem to have worked and he settles for the night. We tend to get him into bed for just after 7pm and he will sleep till 7am. He does often wake once or twice but he is just looking for his dummy and resettles very quickly.
He will nap twice a day for 1-2 hours at a time which is quite nice!
His likes haven’t changed much from last month.
- The Jungle Book – it pains me but it works if I need 10 minutes to get some things done
- Cups – the water is optional
- Farm Playnest – It has really helped with his sitting too!
- Being alone
- Kiwi – we discovered that on holiday!
- The dog barking
