Four Tips For Visiting London For The First Time

Collaborative Post

The city of London is one that is full of life and there’s always something going on to get stuck into, whether you’re a local or a tourist to the capital. If you’re heading down to London for the first time, there are certainly some tips that are worth knowing in order to make your visit successful.

It’s recommended to stay for at least a long weekend in this city in order to tick off plenty. If you’re able to enjoy a week’s holiday away, then that’s plenty of time in London to explore the city in full.

With that being said, here are four tips for visiting London for the first time.

Create an itinerary to ensure everything is ticked off

An itinerary is something that is definitely handy to have and to put in place so that you don’t miss out on anything that you want to do.

Creating an itinerary is beneficial when you’re heading to a new city or place that you’ve not visited before. There’s likely to be plenty that you want to get up to and having it written down will help you remember everything you want to do.

There’s nothing worse than coming away from a place and realising that you missed out on a few gems. It’s good to have a physical itinerary on your person or even a digital one that’s saved on your phone for quick access.

Look for a hotel that’s close to an underground station

There are plenty of hotels in London city that you’ll be spoilt for choice. However, as this is the capital of the UK, you can expect the costs to be pretty hefty. That’s why it’s important to do your research and to look for hotels that are perhaps on the outskirts of London or are in the zones further out of the centre. The central hotels are, of course, going to be the most expensive.

A good tip when booking a hotel is that you find one that’s close enough to an underground station, this will help with getting in and out of the city with ease.

A view across the Thames to the Shard

Visit The Shard for the best views of the cityscape

If you’re looking for the best spots to see the city in all its glory, then visit The Shard. The London Eye was once the most popular as a big Ferris wheel experience. However, with 360 views of the city, The Shard goes up higher and offers a more jaw-dropping experience.

If you also get motion sickness, you may find that the London Eye is too much, even if it does move at a snail’s pace.

Be sure to visit Borough Market for delicious food

One of the highlights of any trip to London is by visiting Borough Market. It’s one of those iconic spots that are perfect for taking in the sights of central London and enjoying some delicious food while you’re at it.

There’s a lot to see and do in London that depending on how long you stay, you may need to revisit to get the full experience.
