Helping Your Child Develop their Fine Motor Skills

AD | Sponsored Post

Fine motor skills are the development tools for a child’s life. As adults, we use them casually and probably don’t even think about what we do when we use them. For children, it’s a perfect opportunity to let your child explore a range of activities that will test their skills using their hands and their fingers to guide them through life. Today we look at ways you can help your child with their fine motor skills.

Explore arts and crafts

From glueing pieces together, collecting pom poms and bending straws or pipe cleaners, your child will have plenty of fun exploring arts and crafts. These all inadvertently explore a child’s ability to hold onto things, bend things with their fingers, holding paint brushes and using glue sticks. Repeatedly showing your child how to explore arts and crafts will help them use their skills more.

Let your child explore gardening

Gardening involves a lot of fiddly bits that your child can get to grips with. It’s all a part of your child’s ability to pick up little things and be able to hold onto them well. Examples of gardening being helpful for a child’s fine motor skills include planting seeds, carrying items for you, picking up individual plants or crops, and harvesting any vegetables. Plus, your child is exploring a lot of fun things gardening can teach them.

Explore a range of sports

A lot of sports rely on kicking or holding a ball, with others relying on a child holding a tennis racket or a hockey stick. They all help your child understand the grip they need to have when they’re learning about fine motor skills. They’re also having fun playing a new or emerging sport, something that can improve a child’s muscle memory and their enjoyment of exercise.
