Stickle Bricks – Beginner Construction Toys For Kids

AD | PR Product

I have lots of memories of being a child and using construction toys. It’s something my siblings and I could do together, because building appeals to all age groups. Stickle Bricks firmly feature in those memories, which is no surprise since they’ve been bringing joy to children since 1969. I was excited for my own children to explore another one of the toys that I think back on fondly, and the Stickle Bricks Fun Tub looked like the perfect place to start.

What Are Stickle Bricks?

Stickle Bricks are a STEM toy “for little hands with big imaginations”. The are designed for use from around 18 months old, and there is no real upper limit on the age they can appeal to thanks to the wide range of things you can make from them.

The vibrantly coloured bricks have a unique locking design when pushed together, and the sight of them alone gave me flash of nostalgia. As well as the standard brick shapes that I remember so well, the Fun Tub comes with wheels and axles, as well as a couple of heads so you can have some “people” amongst your creations.

Imaginative Play

My boys fired straight into the Stickle Bricks, immediately setting to work trying to copy some of the designs on the packaging and the leaflet inside. What I love about Stickle Bricks is that there aren’t any instructions. Yes there are ideas, but there is no right or wrong way to build something and that really lets kids use their own imagination.

For JJ at 3 years old the bricks worked well, but at 5 years old Zee found that they came disconnected a little too easily for is liking. While adding a brick to his construction another section will often fall off. While I appreciate that making them easy to take apart for younger children, my memories of them in the past is of the connection being a bit firmer. While this was a bit of an annoyance it didn’t stop the play at all and he still enjoys using them.

More Than Just Building

The beauty in a toy like Stickle Bricks is that it is so much more than just building. The tactile feel of the bricks adds a sensory element to the play, which appeals to both toddlers and older children. Joining bricks together works on fine motor skills, and the act of building itself teaches balance and design skills which are wonderful educational activities for preschoolers. It’s a great STEM activity, and a really durable toy that will truly last a lifetime.

If you would like to purchase a Stickle Bricks Fun Tub they are available at the Entertainer now.
