While some of us are more creative than others, it’s a fact that we are all capable of creating brilliant ideas. The skill is one that we can actually strengthen with brain teasers, especially during childhood. It has also been suggested by new research that children who exercise their creativity during childhood are more likely to achieve greater levels of economic success. For ideas on how to boost your child’s creativity, check out below.
Random Stimuli
When you’re in the same environment, working on the same things day in and day out, your creativity can become stifled. Sometimes what you need is a break. Even going outside for 10 minutes can do wonders. There are dozens and dozens of things that can catch your attention and give you inspiration in one way or another.
Arts and Crafts
Crafting is fun and it gives children the chance to explore themselves creatively. As they are open ended and there are no rules, children can go wild. They can go in whichever direction that they see fit and create things that are innovative.
Lego
Toys like Lego are also good. They don’t confine their imagination and allow them to create whatever they like. Who knows, you may even make way for the world’s newest and biggest architect.
Guessing Games
Problem solving and creativity go hand in hand. Games that involve guessing like “Guess Who” and “Cluedo” etc all require creative thinking so it is something that you can help them with through something as simple as family games night.
Space
While you may be intrigued, watching over your child during play can make them feel nervous and less likely to be creative. Offering them space and ample opportunity is what will.
Praise Them
There is no such thing as a bad idea – just ones that are more fitting. Shooting your child’s ideas down can make them feel anxious about expressing themselves and refrain from being creative. Welcoming them and speaking positively about them can help to avoid this.
