Gift Ideas For People With Diabetes

Collaborative Post

I don’t know how it happened, but this weekend I found myself looking at 40th birthday cards. I swear that it wasn’t all that long ago that we were celebrating our 21st birthdays, but an 8 year marriage and 2 kids later I think I finally need to admit that not only am I in my 30’s – my friends are approaching 40 and it won’t be long until I join them in receiving a Boomf card.

I’m often asked what would be the perfect gift for a type 1 diabetic and while my standard answer is that the gift has nothing to do with them having diabetes, sometimes you do want to intentionally give them a gift that enhances or celebrate their diabetes. And so, below I have tips to get you started.

Favourite Gifts For People With Diabetes

Device Stickers

When you’re having to use medical equipment every day it really helps if you can make them pretty. My favourites are from Diabitys – an online shop with an owner local to me. There are stickers to jazz up just about any piece of diabetes tech that you like, including ones for the major holidays such as Christmas or Halloween.

MiaoMiao

For many of us in the UK a full CGM isn’t available on the NHS and so we make do with the Libre. An amazing gift for someone with diabetes is a MiaoMiao. It attaches to your Libre to convert it to a continuous glucose monitor, allowing you have to consistent alarms and have your blood glucose readings on your watch.

Myabetic Case

There are some cute cases around to store blood glucose meters, or to carry your full diabetes kit around with you. Myabetic have a huge range of high quality cases and bags to choose from. They have a handy questionnaire to help you work out which size would suit your needs best, so they won’t be disappointed.

Hid-In Pump Pouch

For insulin pump users it can be annoying trying to work out where to put your tubed pump. Hid-In supply pump pouches in different styles for lots of different uses. They are the most secure insulin pump pouches I’ve used and really comfortable to wear.

You can also connect the Libre 2 to a smart watch for BG readings on the go

Personalised Card

The great thing about personalised items is that you can add your own diabetes references. Whether it is you telling them they’re a super star or adding a silly diabetes joke, buying Boomf personalised 40th birthday cards is a fun way to celebrate and show that you’ve really thought about them.

Sweets And Chocolates

Due to the stereotypes surrounding diabetes, many of us receiving a lot less in the way of sweets and chocolates. People tend to shy away from it because although they know we do eat it, they’re not sure of the etiquette or if it would be seen as distasteful. Buy the chocolates. They’ll go perfectly with that 40th birthday card and they’ll really appreciate that you’ve given them something they’ll genuinely enjoy and that not everyone would buy.
