Yoto has taken the UK by storm in the last few years. Everywhere I look I see it being suggested as the perfect present for kids of all ages. Once you’ve tried one out you soon realise why – it is a great screen free way for kids to listen to audio books, music and podcasts.
The problem is, what do you do when you get one? With so many cards to choose from it can be hard to know which ones to go for. I have loved trawling through the Yoto library and exploring the options with my children, and I think we’ve found the best Yoto cards for all ages.
What Is A Yoto?
If you haven’t come across the Yoto before, it is a screen free audio device for kids aged 3-12. It comes in 2 forms, the Yoto and the Yoto mini. The Yoto can be used for audiobooks, music, podcasts, radio and so much more.
If you’d like to know more read my Yoto Mini Player review and Yoto Player Generation 3 review to find out how it all works
The original Yoto player is larger and has a few additional features, such as an “ok to wake” light and clock. The Yoto Mini is much smaller and portable, making it perfect for listening on the go.

What Are Yoto Cards?
To play audio on your Yoto player you use Yoto cards. They are small plastic cards, roughly the same size as a credit card, that you put into the slot in the top of the Yoto. Each card has different audio on it, with choices from stories, songs, sleep meditations and even cards dedicated to jokes.
Each Yoto comes with a single Make Your Own card, that you can fill with your own content. So you will need to purchase more Yoto cards to get the most out of your Yoto.
Where To Buy Yoto Cards
The best place to buy Yoto cards is from Yoto direct. Other retailers don’t have the range of cards available that Yoto does and you are likely to miss out on some great options.
Where possible I have shared more than one retailer for each card, but if you are looking to buy multiple cards then Yoto usually comes out on top in terms of value.
Where To Buy Second Hand Yoto Cards
The the moment there isn’t a huge market for second hand Yoto cards. I think that most people are hanging on to them – and I don’t blame them. You can sometimes find them on eBay, but the quality can be questionable.
Your best bet for finding second hand cards is to look on Facebook selling groups. There are often local groups dedicated to swapping or selling Yoto cards, so take a look and you may manage to bag a bargain.
