Some of my earliest memories are of baking with my mum. Me and my siblings all spent time in the kitchen with her making scones and pancakes, and it was always a fun way to spend time together. As my boys are getting older they are more and more interested in baking with me – and I am more than happy to oblige! 2020 has been a strange year for everyone and that time in the kitchen creating something from scratch that we can all enjoy eating is just one way of appreciating the simple joys in life.
Nadiya’s Bake Me A Story Deluxe Baking Set For Kids
To help kids gain confidence in the kitchen, Nadiya Hussain has released 3 different baking sets. They are designed for kids, both is size and aesthetics, to help them have more independence in the kitchen and really get stuck in to baking. There are 3 baking sets, Simple, Savoury and Deluxe, each containing the items you need for cooking the recipes included. We were sent the Deluxe Baking Set to try out, and Zee and I got stuck right in.

What Is In The Box
Everything comes handily packaged in one cardboard box. There was no unnecessary additional plastic or packaging, just the essentials all in one place. There are 28 items included in the Deluxe Baking Set:
- Rolling pin
- Spatula
- Mixing bowl
- Whisk
- 12 Silicone cupcake cases
- Sieve
- 3 Cookie cutters
- Measuring spoons
- Apron
- 6 Recipe cards
I love the bright colours of the set, in particular the mixing bowl and spatula as they match the colours in our kitchen. Although the items are designed to be child sized I found them all perfect for me, meaning I don’t have any problems when I step in to help Zee with something. It doesn’t matter that the kids will grow and get bigger, they will still be able to use the tools comfortably.
The cookie cutters might be my favourite item from the set. I’ve never seen ones with silicone tops before to protect your hands when you push down. I can’t wait until we use the man shaped one for gingerbread men at Christmas! The tools are all silicone tested to LFGB food safety standard, and dishwasher safe for an easy clean up afterwards.
Recipes
We love to bake but are guilty of sticking to our tried and tested recipes over and over again. The Deluxe Baking Set has recipes for new things that we hadn’t tried before, as well as different variations of our classics that I’m sure the kids will love.
- Star anise gingerbread men
- Very berry breakfast muffins
- Pastry roses
- Cookie mallows
- Zebra cake
- Rock cakes
Baking With Kids
Obviously the best way to try out a baking set is to bake something! Zee and I decided to give the Very Berry Breakfast Muffins a go, we already had almost all of the ingredients in the cupboard, so we just needed to buy fresh berries. This is a big plus from me!

Zee loves having his own apron that fits – particularly the pocket. He kept it on for ages afterwards….. even though I would have liked to get it straight in the wash because he’d managed to get a fair amount of flour on it! The mixing bowl was the perfect size for him, and using the little handle made mixing much easier for him to hold and mix.

The silicone cupcake cases were really easy for Zee to separate and places on the cupcake tray, and we practiced some counting as he laid them out for our muffins. I was really impressed with how easily the cooked muffins came out of them, and how easy they were to clean.

Overall we really enjoyed using the Deluxe Baking Set. Zee is definitely going to gain confidence in baking now that he has his own baking tools, and I’m going to make the most of having them to hand when he’s not in the kitchen too!
We were sent a Deluxe Baking Set for kids in order to carry out this review. All words and opinions are my own.
